Outer Banks and Hatteras Island second home real estate markets featured in USA Today

The second home real estate market on the Outer Banks was featured in a February 25th USA Today article, which heralded the beach communities as peaceful and underdeveloped.

“The Outer Banks have long attracted visitors who march to a slightly different drummer, from the pirate Blackbeard to pioneering aviators Orville and Wilbur Wright to modern-day second-home owners miles from the nearest road,” reports author Larry Olmsted. “You don’t have to be a rebel to love these barrier islands off North Carolina, but a flair for escapism helps.” Continue reading

Bodie Island restoration project is underway

The Bodie Island Lighthouse, located in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore just north of the Bonner Bridge, is getting a much needed and long awaited facelift.

The $2.8 million project to restore and refurbish the lighthouse got underway late last year and is expected to take about 18 months. Continue reading

Movie based on Pea Island “Rescue Men” Premieres

On February 27th, 7:30 p.m., the Indoor Theater at Roanoke Island Festival Park will host the Outer Banks debut of the documentary film Rescue Men, The Story of the Pea Island Life Savers. The movie, which is produced and directed by Los Angeles based DreamQuest Productions, has been in the works for several years and tells the story of one particular brave Hatteras Island life saving crew. La Fogata is coming to Hatteras Island

Mexican food lovers, the wait is over.

After months if not years of speculation and rumors, it has been confirmed that La Fogata, the popular authentic Mexican restaurant with two locations in the Northern Outer Banks, will be coming to Hatteras Island.

Tony Fernandez , one of the 5 partners, says the plan to open a Hatteras Island location for a long time, due mainly to repeat local patron requests. “We have many customers who live south and they say it’s hard to drive all the way here, so we thought it would be nice to open a restaurant there too, and save them a trip.” Continue reading
